While our dentist and team do our best to provide preventive care and keep your mouth and smile healthy, the most important ways to maintain your health and smile happen at home. Maintaining a good oral hygiene routine is crucial to preventing cavities, gum disease and other problems from developing. We have provided some basic instructions on what to do below, and we encourage you to contact us at 425-641-5303 if you have any questions about oral hygiene.


You should brush your teeth at least twice a day, including once before going to sleep at night. We recommend waiting about 30 minutes after eating to ensure that any acids left over from your meal are neutralized. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and an ADA-approved fluoridated toothpaste. Clean each surface of your teeth and remember to brush gently. Overaggressive brushing can lead to gum recession and other problems.


Floss daily. You may floss before or after you brush. We recommend starting with your molars and working your way forward. Use a fresh section of floss for each tooth, and do not re-use a strand of floss. Curve the floss around your tooth and floss under and then away from your gum line. Be sure to floss carefully in order to avoid damaging your gums.
